About Us
WHAT WE DO
The ReadyToRead Foundation is a free volunteer service initiative that empowers high school students to support early literacy by working with young children, primarily ages 3–9, through explicit phonics-based instruction. Our mission is to provide underserved children with early exposure to reading, helping them build the foundational skills needed to expand future educational and career opportunities.

Why It Works
-
Research consistently shows that systematic phonics approaches are among the most effective ways to build early literacy skills.
-
When children develop strong decoding abilities early on, reading becomes more fluent, allowing meaning and understanding to emerge naturally. Both accuracy and comprehension are critical to long-term literacy success.
-
Early exposure to reading forms the foundation for academic growth and supports attention, confidence, creativity, vocabulary development, and a lifelong curiosity for learning.
By focusing on children at a key developmental stage, the ReadyToRead Program helps ensure these essential skills take root when they have the greatest impact.
